I'm a writer and traveler dedicated to cultural immersion, exploration, and community building. I spent my childhood growing up in the Midwest, my college years in Colorado, and most of my adult life in Morocco. When I left the U.S. for the first time at 19 to study abroad for a semester in France, the experience ignited my love for travel and inspired my eventual move abroad.

After returning from my semester abroad, I created the blog on this site to share my travel experiences and reflections. The Candid Connection focuses on authentic travel, emphasizing immersive experiences over touristic itineraries and highlighting the ways in which we can connect, both to ourselves and with others, while in unfamiliar places. 

I'm currently an MFA candidate at the University of British Columbia, where I'm working on a creative nonfiction essay collection. My creative writing has appeared in Pinch Journal Online, Literary Namjooning, and Eunoia Review, and my articles and travel guides have appeared in Business Insider, Metro UK, GetYourGuide, and Cipher Magazine.
